Please note that these practice assignments are different from your 1-on-1 real work experience assignments which will come after you are finished with your training videos as stated on our website. These practice assignments are designed to help you immediately get practice implementing what you’ve just learned in smaller, more manageable chunks rather than just expecting you to know how to set up a full campaign all at once. These practice assignments are strategically broken up into several parts and in step-by-step format so that we can tackle every aspect of setting up an effective campaign from the research phase all the way to the creation phase. By doing each of these practice assignments, you will now know how to get your digital marketing campaigns up and going in an effective and strategic way. 

Doing these practice assignments are of course optional, but they are encouraged as this extra practice now will help you create better marketing campaigns for the 1-on-1 real work experience part of the program. Instructions on how to do each task, where to save your work, and examples so you can compare what you came up with vs. what I came up with so that you can assess how you did on this practice assignment will all be provided below. Please note that although I provide examples of the marketing content that I came up with in some of the practice assignments, there is no exact right way that your content should look like when it comes to marketing. So, you cannot expect your results to look exactly like mine. What is important is that you are implementing what I’ve taught you in the training videos and in the below practice assignment as this is all meant to help you create the best marketing campaigns possible. 

Hypothetical Company For This Assignment:

Repeated info from other practice assignments: As with all practice assignments, you can use your own company, a company you’d like to work for, a made-up company in an industry you’re interested in, or you can use the hypothetical made-up Digital Marketing Agency I talk about below when completing each practice assignment. If you’re unsure which company to use for these practice assignments, using the made-up Digital Marketing Agency may be easiest for learning purposes as you’ll be able to compare and contrast your marketing content with the examples I provide which will be for a Digital Marketing Agency. The key thing is that you should use the same company throughout all of your practice assignments as the practice work you do on 1 practice assignment will be carried over and used in later practice assignments. 

Once again, like with all our practice assignments, I’m going to use a Digital Marketing Agency as our hypothetical company that we are trying to grow via Digital Marketing. I want you to assume that they specifically focus on Social Media Marketing, Email Marketing, PPC Marketing and SEO Marketing. I want you to pretend that this Digital Marketing Agency has spent a ton of time on SEO, they have a strong Domain Ranking, and they are already able to typically rank for keywords that have a difficulty of “Medium”. Additionally, you will be writing a blog article around the main keyword of “Why hire a digital marketing agency”. As far as what content should be in the article, please refer back to your SERP Analysis which you did for SEO Practice Assignment #2 as that will guide you on what you should be talking about in this article.

Start of the Assignment

At this point, you’ve done your keyword research in SEO Practice Assignment #1 so you know what keywords make sense to go after. In SEO Practice Assignment #2, you did your SERP analysis for the keyword “Why hire a digital marketing agency” so you have an idea of what the title should be, what subheadings and subtopics you should use, and how long your article should be. In this SEO Practice Assignment, you will now be creating a blog article based on your SERP Analysis.

Creating Your SEO Blog Article

Here’s what you will do for this practice assignment. Please note that you do not need to fully create this blog where you are writing out each section. You can just create the framework by doing the below. You are of course more than welcome to fully write out the blog article if you’d like, but you will be getting real work experience in just a bit doing that in the Work Experience section of our program once you finish your SEO training videos. So you can simply just create the framework here by doing all of the below and you can put your work product for this assignment in this SEO Practice Assignment #3 Blog Doc ↗︎ (please make a copy so that you can edit this). 

Step 1: Look at your SERP Analysis spreadsheet that you created for SEO Practice Assignment #2.

You will analyze this to help you make decisions about the below steps.

Step 2: Come up with your blog article’s Title

Based on what you saw in the SERP, you’ll want to make a title that is similar to what you saw there, but make it more eye-catching or better if possible. 

  • For example, if you noticed that there are articles titled “The 10 reasons to hire a digital marketing agency”, you might want to come up with something like, “The 15 Most Important Reasons To Hire a Digital Marketing Agency”.
Step 3: Come up with your Subheadings

Based on the subheadings you saw these articles using, you will probably notice some overlap in that a lot of these articles are likely using similar subheadings with similar secondary keywords in them. You’ll want to make sure you have similar subheadings as these but you can make your article better by adding a few more subheadings so all of a sudden your article is more encompassing than any 1 article that’s showing up in the SERP as you have essentially consolidated info from a bunch of top ranking articles into your 1 article.

Step 4: Decide roughly how many words your article will be in length

Are the articles in the SERP all around 500 words, 1,500 words, 2,000 words? Make note of how long these articles are as you’ll want to make your article similar in terms of length as this is what Google seems to like for this particular keyword.

Step 5: Create a CTA to turn your blog article readers into leads or customers

Remember, your goal isn’t just to get your blog article to rank high on Google, but instead, your ultimate goal is to turn these people into leads or customers. So, although you don’t want your article to feel salesy where you’re just simply talking about how your company is the best and it’s the only way to solve the readers’ problem, you certainly need to make sure that you plug your company at some point during your article in a subtle way so that the reader knows your company can help them with their problem. 

At the very least, at the end of your article, this is where you should do this as this will be your CTA telling the viewer what action they should take next to fix their problem. For example, 

    • If I was writing an article for a Digital Marketing Agency, I might end it with: “If you need any help growing your company faster and just don’t have the time to create all the different types of ad content we just discussed in this article, feel free to set up a free consultation with Ace Digital Marketing here as we’ve helped 500+ business owners scale their companies and would be happy to help you too. 
    • For additional ideas on what this should look like, you should see how the articles that are showing up in the SERP are doing this as this will give you insight as to how you could do it for this particular target audience. 

However, by only plugging your company at the very end of your blog article, you may miss out on a lot of people actually knowing about how your company can help them as you are now depending on them to read your entire article in order for them to hear your subtle pitch about yourself. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t end up reading full articles and may leave your website before getting to the bottom. So, you may see some companies subtly pitch themselves earlier in their blog article as well just to ensure that the people that got to this article definitely have learned a bit about your company and how they could be a solution to help the viewer solve their problem. One common area that companies will do this first subtle pitch is in the first paragraph where they are laying out what they are going to talk about in their article. For example, 

  • “In this article, we’re going to discuss the most effective types of ads that you can create for your company that will give you the best ROI and what software you can use to help you create these ads. We’re going to give you our main tested and proven tips so you can finally scale your company much faster and if you need any help, we can even set up a 1-on-1 free consultation to help you achieve this. Let’s dive in.“
Step 6: Create a Meta Description

Your Meta Description will show up underneath your article’s title and this space should be used to entice people to want to click on the article as well as inform people as to what info is going to be provided in the article. For example, if I were to rewrite the above Meta Description, I would make it sound more appealing by writing”
