Optimizing Your Indeed Profile

Now that you’ve fixed your resume, I also strongly suggest you also get your resume on Indeed’s website as well even if you don’t plan on applying directly to these companies as recruiters and companies can find you this way (although they are much more prevalent on Linkedin). There’s really not much to getting your resume on Indeed, but I wanted to cover a few basics here to make sure you’re getting the most out of this platform as well.

  1. Upload your resume to the platform and set it to Public so that companies and recruiters can see your profile and resume
  1. Once you’ve uploaded your resume, click “Convert to Indeed Resume” and just fill in the info that pops up exactly as you have it on your resume as this can make it easier for recruiters and hiring managers to go through your Indeed profile. I know you can add 20+ jobs in the Work Experience while doing this, but I recommend only putting down what you have on your resume as you don’t want your Indeed resume to be super long just like you don’t want your resume to be super long.
  1. When you get to the “Add at least 5 skills to improve your job matches” section, I recommend adding the below:
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Email Marketing
  • PPC Campaign Management
  • SEO
  • SEM
  • Lead Generation
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Marketing
  • Digital Marketing
  • Sales
  • Customer Service
  1. Next, you’ll see the “What Certifications or licenses do you have?” You can add all your certifications or licenses here (even if you don’t have them on your resume). You can update this section as you gain your certifications through our program as well.
  1. Next, you’ll see the “Is your resume ready?” section. I wouldn’t add any thing additional here other than in the “Add Sections” down at the bottom. The only sections I’d recommend adding are the Languages and Awards section (if you speak more than 1 language and have earned some award that deals with Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, or being a good employee). Other than that, I wouldn’t recommend adding anything else as we don’t want this to get too long. Adding Languages and Awards is not a must, but you can add this if you’d like. It won’t make that much of a difference as once again, what matters by far the most is what you have in your Work Experience section. Then click “Continue”.
  1. Next, in the “Make your resume public so employers can find you”, click Public.
  1. Next, in the “What kind of job are you looking for?” make sure not to limit yourself too much here as you don’t want to pigeonhole yourself because if employers see you put in for example “Social Media Manager” for your “Desired Job Title”, they might not want to interview you for another type of Digital Marketing role. So, I’d recommend leaving “Desired Job Title” blank. Fill out the rest of this section with the same thing in mind. I’d recommend showing your as flexible as possible in this section as you don’t want to cut yourself off from potential opportunities. Remember, if you do a good job in your interviews, there is always room to negotiate a bit once you get an offer for some of the things that are really important for you so be flexible in this section.
  1. Next, click “View your profile”.
  1. Then, make sure you check off “Ready to work”. For the “Assessments” section, I don’t recommend you spending any time on these. If after finishing our entire program, you feel so inclined to do some of these, feel free to, but I wouldn’t recommend spending time on these now.

That’s it. Your Indeed profile is now all set.
